Rule #7: “Wait and See” Is Not a Plan

“Let’s wait and see.”

It sounds reasonable.

It feels measured. Responsible. Not overreactive.

And sometimes, it is appropriate.

But not when the condition you’re dealing with is progressive and potentially catastrophic.

The Rule: “Wait and see” is not a plan.

It is a delay.

And in conditions like gallbladder mucoceles, delay has consequences.

These conditions do not resolve on their own. They do not stabilize indefinitely. They move — slowly at first, then all at once.

The difficulty is that early symptoms don’t justify urgency on their own:

  • mild appetite change
  • subtle lethargy
  • intermittent discomfort

So waiting feels justified.

Gabby did not present in a way that forced immediate escalation.

And that’s exactly why this matters.

What to Understand

  • “Wait and see” is often used when:
    • symptoms are unclear
    • diagnostics haven’t been done
    • the situation feels non-urgent
  • But mucoceles:
    • do not reverse
    • do not pause indefinitely
    • can deteriorate rapidly after a quiet phase

What To Do

  • Replace “wait and see” with:
    • “Investigate and rule out.
  • If symptoms persist → escalate within 24–48 hours
  • Ask directly:
    • “What are we ruling out by waiting?”
    • “What would we miss if we delay imaging?”

Waiting is not neutral.

It is a decision.
